Isla's 8th Month
4.14.2017
Oh to be a parent. I'd like to say that it's easy, that it's all playtime and giggles. That every photo you see is a window into my perfect life. Yes, I am happy, I do have fairly well behaved kids, and a good strong marriage but our lives are far from perfect. When you look past the smiles and beautiful photos shared, parenthood is so much more. We have good days and bad and on this particular, for Isla, she was not the friendliest.
This little "Bear" as she has been affectionately nicknamed was not up for a photo shoot. She did NOT want to be in her crib and she did NOT like me taking away the card we kept placing before her feet. I had envisioned this shoot going as well as the last. So many smiles and coos but Isla had different plans.
Jedidiah and I had considered trying again another day, this was turning into a complete wash. I certainly don't want Isla to grow to hate the camera every time I bring it out. But I realized I loved her tears and her truth at this age, so I decided to capture this grouchy moment, as it was, on her 8th month marker. We tried to keep the card from her, so I could save it, perfectly intact but in the end I decided to let her chew on it. The memories from this warped and drool stained card will now carry far more meaning to us.
Isla is officially 8 months old. My sweet bear is growing fast! Each day she loses that young newborn look. *insert motherly sobs and tears* At 8 months, Isla is very alert. She listens to the sounds around her, even sounds in the other room, she turns to. She does the funniest little flutter with her eyes that brings us all to tears every time we see it. Our passing dogs make her giggle, she has a particular interest in Buffy (our boston terrier). Isla has finally learned to sit up well and is starting to pull herself into a sitting position. She never stays still, like her parents, she is already an explorer. Isla is always rolling and finding things to get into. She isn't crawling yet but she does this wiggle that I can only describe as floor swimming. I know it's only a matter of time before she catches on.
Isla reaches for us now when we come to her (I love that so much!). She loves to put her hands on my mouth when I rock her to sleep. I feel so incredibly blessed to have this bear of mine, tears and all. God is so good!

{This is from March} Let me begin by saying I had hoped to share these at the beginning of the month, shortly after capturing them. I had hoped to be more on top of things by now, but I'm still learning to manage my time and juggle my new daily routine. I had hoped to start chipping away at my yearly goals, better than I have been. But I'm not perfect and I'm definitely NOT a what you would call organized by normal standards. My house is always clean and I'm always cooking new, from scratch recipes, for my family. I've even been working on more crafts, I've missed that so much. But it's also a toss between getting dressed, photos, editing, and getting my social game on or it's tackling daily life. I've yet to reach that perfect middle. How do other's do this? Tell me your secrets! I must know!
But all broken records aside with rants from a busy mom, it truly has been one of those months. And while it's been intense at times, I'm grateful for the family I have, their support, and the strength I have had to push through it. My month has been full of errands, doctors appointments, prepping and planning a craft for a very large group of moms, sick kids, and just daily life. The most recent adventure took us to the ER after Isla took a tumble off a table at the chiropractor's office. Wow was that scary! It was an innocent mistake and one that parents make all the time. My husband set Isla on the table to clear her things out of her car seat. Isla as the roly poly she is, rolled right off the table. Jedidiah caught her just before crashing full force. Although he broke her fall she still caught a bit of the blow to her nose. It bled and she screamed.
After many hours in the ER she was give the all clear. Her poor nose scabbed and eventually she was left with a red mark, that she still has today. It make her look like a character from Whoville. Ah the adventures in parenting. I wouldn't change a thing. I love being a mom.
On an happier note, look who got their first two teeth! So adorable!

I'm really pleased with how this shoot came out. Isla is so darn cute, I just can't! I've been wanting to start a small photography business with a focus on infants. This wiggle worm is the perfect model. Those baby blues are so intense! I keep saying this but seriously we've really lucked out with all this wonderful warm weather. Because of that I was able to take her outside on my withered deck.
This little girl, who was 11 weeks, (now 12 weeks) has discovered her tongue. It just cracks me up seeing her stick it out. Half her shoot was her showing off that pointy tongue. I think that's what is so exciting about infant photography, you never know what you will get. Even in the moment when you have a vision on how things will turn out, it's usually completely different. I had wanted to swaddle Isla's arms but she is a wiggly one and doesn't like to be pinned down. Being outside helped a great deal. She just looked up at the sky and anything that moved into her view.
This shoot was inspired by the many versions I found on Pinterest. I wanted something fall themed and this idea grabbed me the most. We bought a 13 pound bag of candy corn from Sam's and let me tell you, it was sooooo hard not to crack open that bag before this shoot! My brother made a point to tell me that although these photos were adorable, it was such a shame to waste so much candy. I think it was well worth it for this cutie. Plus we totally kept all the candy in the basket. Our dogs eagerly made an effort to steal the rest.
Does anyone have any tips for getting sharper images on blogger? It's my one peeve about sharing photos on here. Sharp on the computer and fuzzy on this blog. I've tried using .png and setting blogger not to alter my images but they still blur a bit... Anyhoo, more photos to come soon! Xoxo!
Take Care & Enjoy,
