15 Weeks Down, 24 More to Go!

2.23.2016

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you may have already heard the news. We're having a baby! I'm 15 weeks and 3 days today. I've been hesitant to share this news, which is silly because I love following pregnant mamas on their journey. But a part of me stressed over my baby's health, another part of me worried how others would react, would my blog suffer? I know I'm looking into this way to much but in my scrambled pregnant brain it's all I could think of. Aside from my children, and brother, who was living with us for a few months, no one knew. Jedidiah has been bursting at the seams for quite some time. I think not sharing with his parents was killing him. I got him to agree to wait till we were done with the first trimester and here we are!

I'm excited to embrace this pregnancy. My last two I didn't share those months and I have very few photos of me pregnant. I regret that but with this one I look forward to documenting my progress and experimenting with pregnancy fashion. Speaking about past pregnancies, I did manage to find two photos from Piper's pregnancy. I didn't have a digital camera with Chloie, I was also just barely 18 and unsure of how I felt about being a teen mom. In the first photo I'm 17wks and in the second I'm about 8 months. I almost never smiled in photos back then. I went for more a serious look. I also wasn't into fashion like I am today nor did I know a thing about photography.

This is also why I've been MIA more than usual. As I mentioned in my post before last, the second biggest reason I've been absent was because I was sick. The first reason was because I was pregnant and feeling drained. All this bad weather has made the roads and sidewalks extremely icy. I've come close to slipping several times and it slowed my outfit posts down.

Anyhoo, moving on to this wonderful dress. Not long ago Karina Dresses contacted me and asked if I would be interested in trying one of their dresses. I'll be honest I didn't feel their dresses were quite my style but I agreed to give them a try. Upon opening my package, I still didn't feel confident I'd like my dress. Much to my surprise I DID end up loving it!!!

Their site boasts that their dresses are easy to wear and will flatter any woman's shape. While I cannot speak for every woman, I will say I was pleasantly surprised with how flattering this dress was, even with my little baby bump. It's made of a microfiber, spandex like material and has a lot of stretch. I'm hopeful this will fit through a good portion of my pregnancy. It is unlined, and thin (bare that in mind when choosing frilly undergarments). I worried it would show my underwear patterns but it seems to hide them. I argue it would have been nice if they lined the bottom half. I think thin dresses are always nicer lined.

This particular dress style is called Ruby and comes in several patterns and colors. It's sleeveless (LOVE that) and has an attached sash that you can wrap and tie as you like. I wrapped mine around me twice so I didn't have very long pieces in the front. My verdict? While mine arrived with some flaws, I would definitely consider buying from them in the near future. I do wish the bottom was lined and that their dresses were mildly shorter (that's just a personal preference). Their prices are steep but considering they are made in the USA vs over seas is a big plus to me. I'm hoping to convince my husband to let me invest in at least one more dress. Check out their website and consider giving them a try! I think you might be pleasantly surprised too.

Happy Valentine's Day!

2.14.2016

Hello! How is your weekend going? It's been a bit slow around here lately. Jedidiah has been going on a lot of work road trips so the girls and I have been enjoying some quiet time at home. I hope to get back into fashion posts soon but with the weather still chilly it's made me too lazy to get out my tripod and shoot my own picts. It's much easier when the weather is warm and I have more time to tinker with my settings.

Anyhoo, this is just a quick post to share what we've been up to today. I celebrated my Valentine's day last weekend with the hubby. We went on a short but sweet getaway to Estes Park. It was too cold to get out and shoot photos but I'm okay with that.

Today the girls and I made these delicious mini apple & cherry pies. Dessert doesn't get easier than these little treats. I can't take the credit for this creation. I found the inspiration on Pinterest. I did however add my own twist with a homemade cream cheese drizzle topping. It wouldn't have been as good without it.

I regret that I didn't get any photos of Chloie this time. She was being kind of sour and it wasn't until after I put my camera away that she wanted to help...teenagers...

You can find this super easy and very affordable recipe here:

I regret I don't have exact measurements for my glaze recipe. I'm an eyeball sort of gal. I added butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, a dash of vanilla extract, and milk. I kept it thin but thick enough to hold it's shape.

Happy Valentines Day Everyone!

Xoxo,
Heather

A Belated Happy New Year

2.04.2016

Hello and happy new year! It's a belated wish that I wanted to say much sooner. Better late than never? I've been away from social media for quite some time. Aside from a quick pop on Facebook every now and then I haven't been very social at all. I've missed all of you and what you've been up to in this new year. I deeply appreciate those who have written me personally, asking how I am doing. I don't have a lot of friends so it really brightens my day to know someone remembered me, thank you.

So why did I disappear? There are a few reasons. The second biggest reason is because I've been really sick. Terribly sick! I don't think I've been this sick in a long time. After two rounds of antibiotics I'm still feeling a bit slow but everyday gets better. I've spent the better part of two months in pajamas barely picking up my camera, binging on Netflix and crocheting. I've also had family staying on an overly extended vacation. It's made being myself and getting back into a normal routine challenging. These photos are from last month. I've only been out twice this year in an attempt to do outfit posts. The last shoot didn't turnout as well as I would have hoped. But I'm determined to work on that!

It's been quite cold around here lately, I've really had to rethink my outfits. This outfit is a little different than my usual look but I love how effortless this style is. It's also easy to layer. I wish I could get this dress in every color but gray seems to be the most common color to find it in.

In December I hosted an outfit giveaway. If you recall I mentioned a special surprise to be included by me... this was the surprise that went to a lovely lady in New York. I made this necklace from a piece I saw in Forever 21, only mine is made from an actual crystal while theirs was made of plastic. I don't own a lot of pendant necklaces but I often find myself wearing this particular one with this style dress. Would you be interested in me making a tutorial?

These earrings aren't mine. My sister is infamous for taking her earrings off at my house and leaving them behind. I have collected several pairs over the years from her. After reminding her countless times I decided to wear them. Why not, I did buy them for her after all lol! I always feel weird wearing dangly earrings. It's odd how you get into a style preference and stepping out of it just feels foreign. Do you ever step out of your fashion comfort zone, whether it's something small like earrings or something major like another style all together? How did you feel? In this outfit I was constantly reminded of my earrings dangling from side to side. This dress is also different for me. I felt like I was wearing a tent and very exposed underneath (even though I know I was the only one seeing it). While I felt a different wearing this, I loved challenging myself to try something new. This is going to be something I plan to do a lot this year... challenging myself to do new things, get myself out there more, and stop hiding away in my home. There are a lot of changes in store for me this year and I fully look forward to embracing each and every one of them.
