My Computer, IT LIVES!

8.20.2015

Hello! It's been weeks since I've posted anything on Instagram and longer on here. Why? Well aside from the impending school year and squeezing in ever ounce of fun I could with the family, my computer decided it was tired of all my photography. Or at least that's what I think. I do pass a lot of photos through it. So much editing! Some weeks back I went to upload another batch of photos from my Canon to the computer and a warning told me I wasn't allowed to do that! What?! Completely weird! Further more I couldn't edit anything from previous folders or do anything more than look at my photos. Clearly my computer was on strike. We had plenty of space and there was no reason for it to act this strange so ultimately it had to be reformatted. Unfortunately at the time Jedidiah was out of town with work so I just had to impatiently wait. *sigh* Moving forward to today, I'm finally able to upload photos and edit again. Hurray! We've also upgraded to windows 10, which if you follow me on Facebook, you probably saw me grumble about my disdain for upgrades. I love improvements but geez I really dislike learning a whole new layout! But I'm sure I'll get over this in like a month and forget all about the old version. LOL!

These photos are from earlier this summer. It was a huge roll that I've been working on in my spare time. I still have a lot to go through that I'd love to make into a book. I love fashion and styling photo shoots but I'm wild about this crazy family. When I'm not working on my blog or editing photos I'm always spending time with them. The other lovely ladies in this shoot are my sisters, Caitlyn the 4th sibling and Hailey the youngest and 6th sibling. I'm the oldest.

I'm not close to all my siblings. Not entirely by choice. One I haven't seen since he was just a child. I'd love to be reunited with him someday. I think he'd be about 20 now. The other, is about 29. For certain reasons I've chosen to break off those ties. Certain things just can't be fixed despite my best efforts. As for my other 3 we are very close, especially my sisters. I can't imagine my life without them. Do you have siblings? If so how many? Are you close? I love hearing about families and how each interacts.

In person I'm a pretty open book. While I always believe in being respectful and polite I often speak my mind and comfortably discuss a variety of subjects without being squirmish or shy. One might even say I'm an over sharer and while I do hate that about myself, it is my character. It tends to make me awkward even though most swear I don't act it. Online however I'm, for whatever reason, more reserved. That need to barf out every thought in my head as it passes through isn't as intense. I suppose what I'm trying to work out is I'd like to work harder at finding a middle ground on my blog. I've realized that I really don't share much about myself and I'd like to be more personable because hey, I'm a personable gal. With that said I'd love to hear your thoughts and about how I can improve my blog. What you'd like to see more of, etc.

Until next time xoxo!

Take Care & Enjoy,
Heather Gwinn

  1. Loved this! Such silly girls! I have 2 sisters and we're all close in age. There we definitely some years between high school and college where we just clashed all the time. There was a lot of drama in our teen years and I think we all carried jealousy and bitterness into the years following. Lately, though, we seem to be getting along SO WELL and we haven't had any fights or blow outs in over a year. It's amazing! I am so happy that we're close again and aren't feeling negative toward each other.

  2. Cool blog post! And, beautiful family! My family life is complicated, but functional for now. That's probably all I've ever say on the matter in the blogosphere. In person I'm part open and part reserved, but I have a talent for seeming open even if I'm keeping cards close to my chest. Online I keep a lot of things off, like family issues, I don't report every day I have a bad health day, my romantic life, and day to day job stress. You just don't know who's reading so I keep that stuff private. But I'm also super candid about a lot of things too because if there's a lesson to share or something that will be relatable, it's great to share that with people. That's half the point of having a blog, right? Glad you're back! XO

  3. Your family is so wonderful! I just adore your girls and the relationship you and Jed have and your love for all of them! It's so heartwarming.
It's always an interesting thing to decide what to open up about and what to keep to yourself when blogging. I am all for saying as much or as little as you WANT to say, the only bar being if what you're saying will affect someone else or reveal something private about someone who might not want it revealed. Like, my oldest brother prefers I don't tag him or his family in public posts and I rarely share about them on my blog because he'd like their lives to be kept private. And I don't share much about my husband (other than photos, because he likes being photographed) because he's a more private person than I am, and I TOTALLY have a tendency to overshare (oh I have a great awkward story I could tell you about that tendency, ha!).

I don't think my sense of humor comes out as much on my blog. And I don't think I talk enough about subjects I am passionate about, or just... things outside of fashion enough. I've kind of been thinking about that whole thing for my own blog too!
I'm so glad you're back and that your computer didn't completely eradicate your photos!!

    1. Hum, It's weird I just got a notification that someone posted on this but on here it says it was much later, sorry the late reply...I think this is becoming a recurring problem I need to look into.

Thank you! It is a fine line that I try to balance with great care. There are things that I like to be basic in detail about (family) while others I'd love to discuss more in detail. I suppose the more I blog the more I find that I'd like to share new topics and be more myself, which is mostly nerdy. I completely know what you mean about your sense of humor not coming out as much on your blog. Mine has barely touched the surface.

  4. The more I hear about you the more I think we'd get along very well. I'm also an open book, I'm also honest and upfront about my thoughts, opinions, feelings. People often hold it against me. To be honest, I don't understand why. Do people like to be lied to? I honestly love to talk about everything and anything. I'm a very curious person and I ask tons of questions. Oh, and I love when my opinions are challenged! Sadly, not a lot of people I know are like that so I rarely have any interesting philosophical conversations anymore. I miss my Astrophysics buddies. Yup, nerd-y here too, but we had already established that.

As for family, well, I'm kind of in the process of cutting them off. At least for now. I'm so torn! I always thought, or at least hoped (I'm not quite sure which anymore), that we were a close family. Recently though, I found out that we're not. Apparently I'm the only one who places any value on family, everyone else is more focused on their own little world. It really hurts me, I want my children to grow up having grand-parents they love and trust, and aunts, uncles and cousins. But I can't FORCE my family to want to be close to us. So I'm torn between making exhausting and possibly non-fruitful efforts to give my children extended family, or stop trying, cut them off, and live a happy, non-toxic life.

To make matters worse, my family lives pretty far, and my husband's family lives in Mexico. Plus, I'm new to Montreal, and my husband doesn't know very many people. I'm often worried what would happen to our children if we both fell ill, or worse, died. We don't know/trust a lot of people nearby. I've been working on trying to establish a network of close friends, but it takes a lot of time, and with my full time job, the kids, and my blog, it's hard to do!

PS: I love how your oldest daughter is dressed like Sailor Moon. <_<

I have to agree about us really hitting it off as wonderful friends! I often find or perceive that people hold what I say against me even though I always share in a friendly but honest sort of way. I don't think people like honestly now a days. They want to share their thoughts and feelings but hear no one else's.

As for your family, I really sympathize with what you are going through. I'm struggling with a lot of the same issues and it's one I have trouble coming to terms with. I find myself often thinking of the serenity prayer. I'm not sure what your beliefs are but it's been to my mind a lot lately. It says: God grant me serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. If you are anything like me, I'm sure you have fought to tears to make a change but at some point we have to let go and move on, accept. Focus on the beautiful family you have created. Let their lives be full of love, support, and joy. It IS easier said than done. This I know and am to this very day arguing with family over. But I've decided (and I hope you do too) to focus on building a strong circle of friends that you can lean on and call family. Like you, I don't have a lot of friends and being at home all day makes that challenge even harder for me but I'm an optimistic person and I believe there is a good circle of people out there for us to lean on. You can count me as on of those people. I know I'm here in the US but I have a passport and fly free. I can be there for you anytime! We should definitely plan a family visit sometime.Message me any time!

    2. I'm not sure about the notifications. I use the Disqus addon and their blogger extension is also having issues syncing with blogger. I've been thinking of switching to WordPress, the paid version, for more flexibility.

Yes I believe in God, I'm Catholic - not that it really matters which religion you follow (it all comes down to the same thing imo). I like that prayer, I think I'll say it every day. The more you repeat things, the more you put them into action. That's the beauty of prayers. :)

You fly for free?!?! Oh my gosh, that's so awesome!!! Is your husband a pilot or something? Thanks for your sweet words. I consider you a very good friend as well!

    3. Yes! I do fly for free, unless I fly first (which if I can, I sooooo do) then it cost a tiny bit. My husband isn't a pilot, he is a Lead A & P Mechanic.
