Playing Catch-up

9.29.2015

Helloooo! I know I had promised to share my last set of photos from Costa Rica at the end of last week. I've been busy working on them in between several outside projects. I've also been organizing my photo files when I came across several photo shoots I've never edited. We did a ton of activities this summer, I just couldn't go through my photos fast enough. So many, like this one, got left behind. I decided to take a short break and edit these. I'm infamous for juggling way too many projects at once! I'll work on that. These really did turn out beautifully. This was when my little sister was visiting. It was such a sunny day I wasn't confident these photos would turn out. It was blindly bright with little shade!

This was a special day. We wanted to do something different with the girls and especially while Hailey was visiting. We made reservations to eat at the Melting Pot (the girls are always begging to go) but we needed to kill about 45 minutes so we headed over to a park just a couple of blocks up from the restaurant. They had no idea why they were dressed up or why we said they could only stay for a little bit... it was hard to get them to leave when it was time.

In the photo to the right - Me: "Hailey go stand next to the tree." Hailey races over to the tree and hugs it. "Oh uh, you don't have to hug the tree." Hailey continues to stand, eyes closed tight with a huge smile on her face and giggling. "Okay then, hug that tree!"

While we were at the park, Chloie asked if I would do a fashion shoot of her like the ones I do. She looked so lovely I couldn't pass up the chance. I decided now was a great time to take photos of all my lovely ladies. My sister was the hardest to photograph. She's an interesting character but eventually she warmed up for me. Piper however LOVES the camera and photo bombed a great many of my photos. She's famous for that, the little booger! LOL!

This day turned out beautifully. We spent waaay more money than anticipated but the girls had a blast and that was priceless.

All of Chloie's outfit was gifted to her for her birthday. I do know, however, they were all purchased on Amazon.

More photos, fashion shoots, and tasty recipes coming soon!

My Goofy Family

5.30.2015

Hello There! It's been a while since I last posted. These past few weeks have been a total blur! For weeks the girls were chanting "Schools almost out!" or "Only 10 more days!" Then before I knew it it was 6 days then 2 and now they've been out of school for a week. Summer, promise me you won't disappear if I blink my eyes too many times? Actually it's still a bit chilly around here. We've had a TON of rain and while I'm grateful for what I hope will be a fire free summer, I would really like to retire my stockings and extra layers for a while.  Next week looks really promising though. I'm extremely hopeful! *fingers crossed*

These photos are from earlier this month. I can't tell you enough how many times I got on the computer to edit these darn photos only to get up and clean something, visit with family that stopped by, or get into a Pinterest marathon! There simply aren't enough hours in the day. I really wish I didn't need sleep. Think of all we would accomplish...says the girl who is up till 5:30am again. SHAME! I will regret this in just a few short hours.

This was such a wonderful day. The weather was perfect and everyone was in the best of moods. Piper, like father like daughter, played with just about every stick she could find on our walk. Every time I turned around they had found another one to poke, drag, and be goofy with. I'm not too crazy about Piper playing with sticks but I try to remind myself that we were all kids once too.

I regret that I didn't capture the photos that led up to the events of Chloie in the photo to the right. Her expression is hilarious! Jedidiah was trying to convince her to go closer to the river. Of course she had no interest or trust in him with that idea so Jedidiah tried to pull her over, teasing to throw her in. She tried to retaliate and throw him in but that only led to Jed splashing her with water and causing this funny photo.

Chloie took the photo above. Ahh I'm afraid to say we aren't the most normal bunch of people. We're rather dorky, loud at times, always joking, and usually gabbing on and on about nothing and EVERYTHING. Jedidiah usually has three looks in photos, a cheezer grin, his stink eye/ I disapprove look, or this one with his tongue sticking out. He cracks me up! ♥ Are there poses you notice you or your family make all too often?

I asked Chloie to take some photos of Jedidiah and I. We really need to take more photos together! I had artistic visions of beautiful couples photos which were probably waaaay too unrealistic of goals for me to put on my 15 yr old daughter. I turned around after giving Chloie the camera to stand by Jedidiah only to find him holding a huge stick! He said "Look honey, let's take a picture with this!" Needless to say I wasn't amused. All I could think of was the American Gothic painting by Grant Wood of the farmer and his wife. Haha! I'm thrilled Chloie caught this pic though. I'm pretty sure I make that face a lot. :-/

In the end Piper and Jedidiah happily walked the rest of the trail with that darn stick. A befitting way to end this post I think. How is your summer starting? Is it warm where you are? Any plans this summer? There is a huge possibility we may go to Washington/ Portland for a wanderlust adventure sometime in the months to come. Yea!

Abandoned Mines

1.23.2015

We had a last minute decision to go for a snow drive through the mountains the other day. It probably wasn't the best idea, the sun was going down and in this area being so close to the mountains the sun seems to go down even faster. But eh, we didn't feel like sitting around at home so why not. Although I love my winter and snow I look forward to longer summer days when the sun is out till as late as 10pm, which really works with our lifestyle.
I wanted to go to Victor and wander around for a bit with my camera but in truth that wasn't a practical idea. I should have waited to go the next day, it was already 3:30 when we left. Above is an old mining train used to transport metals like gold through the pass in the mid 1800's.

I had wanted to climb the barbed wire fence to get a closer inside look but I suppose the world was against me that day. The days old snow that had piled up along the entire fence came past my knees. It was interesting trying to walk, keep my boots on, and hold a camera. It was very crunchy snow that you couldn't just walk through. Next time, perhaps.

A great many of the buildings in this area are difficult to go into due to being so terribly condemned. Most of them are barely standing and some have no flooring at all. Others are still in active mining sites and harder to get to. I'm still hunting for more, they're everywhere in Colorado. These are just really close by.

I'm really excited to discover one that I had overlooked in this area. There are so many up this way it's not hard to do. Sadly it was getting really late and the sun was already beginning to set. I decided at the very least I'd take a peak inside. This one had a lot more in it than others I've seen. But it was extremely dark and despite how my camera captured the images. I couldn't see very well except for right in front of windows and doorways. The large random holes in the floor wasn't exactly screaming explore me either. I've also learned that in mining areas (as with any condemned building but especially mining areas) EXTREME caution should be used. It's not uncommon to find gated holes in the ground that go thousands of feet down.

Although the upstairs did greatly grip my curiosity I decided to wrap it up. I could hardly see anything and this building isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

I would like to mention that I don't at all encourage exploring abandon areas or buildings. But since I'm confident that this alone won't stop you, should you choose to throw caution into the wind, please be responsible and heed warning signs. Never go alone ( I NEVER do), always let others know where you are going and bring supplies in the event you get stuck over night. Don't get cocky and think that disasters won't ever happen to you. Because we do do a lot of exploring in the mountains and Colorado isn't the most forgiving terrain, we do keep a fully stocked emergency kit. Humm maybe I'll do a post on that soon. Would you be interested in that?

What I Wore: Autumn Strolls & Piper's Birthday

10.29.2014

It's been a crazy busy two weeks. I've tried to get on the computer for ages now to edit some photos but every time I did something came up. Friday the 17th Piper turned 7. Awww my baby girls is growing up too fast. It's times like these that I start to consider one more baby, cause I suppose I'm not entirely ready to let go of that chapter of my life. But with my current medication, Accutane, I'll have to wait about 7 months.

Anyhoo, It was Friday and usually we try to do a family only birthday celebration for the girls and then an actual party days later.  Piper chose to go to a park. It's been a while since we've been to this park and to be honest I don't know why we don't go to this one more often. The changing leaves were enchanting and made for an amazing backdrop. To make the day even better, the weather was warm with clear skies. I was thankful for that cause it allowed us to be outside longer. Piper finished her day with her choice of dinner... Cici's Pizza...and it is always pizza that she picks. LOL! If you asked her every day what she wanted she would always say pizza, then probably tacos. Gotta love a kids simple taste.

Don't you just love this amazing dress from Fleet Collection!? I own two of their dresses now and honestly I would kill to own a whole lot more! Their clothes are wonderfully made and so comfortable to wear all day. My favorite part... pockets! Who doesn't love dresses and skirts with pockets!? Oh and if you haven't tried ModCloth's Contouring Shorts, you should really give them a try. Not only do they comfortably hold everything in but they also add a warm layer under dresses and skirts.
