Busy Gal in an Ascot!

12.11.2015

Hello Lovelies! I'm up late again, scrambling to get this posted and still grab a few hours of sleep before I have to get up, get the kids ready for school, go to Denver and get back before the girls get out of school! All in a days work. I'm super excited about some projects my husband and I are about to tackle. Today we are heading up to Denver to get Piper a new bedroom set. It's vintage and completely adorable. I managed to haggle the price down to $200! {Insert shocked emoji face!} This set comes with a dresser, mirror, desk with hutch, chair, night stand, and head board. I can't even get a new bed for $200! It appears to be in wonderful used condition but I'm probably going to paint it... there in lies the project part. It's going to be one tedious task painting all that furniture white. Right now it's a cream color but I'm not wild about the gold flecks in it. It reminds me of a french provincial set I used to have as a girl but without the feet.

Oh did I mention that I'm hoping to get it completely painted before Christmas?! Haha I'm laughing just thinking about that. I'm probably being overly ambitious but we shall see. We plan to make it a surprise for Piper. To keep her out of her room I'll have to make up a story, I might say that her window broke. She definitely won't object to sleeping in her sister's room. I'll be sure to post before and after photos. (Unless I go mad from all the painting).

Painting and redecorating Piper's room isn't the only thing we are planning to do. I've also convinced Jedidiah to help me paint the kitchen cabinets, FINALLY! I'm not sure what made him agree to it but I'm overly joyed to be rid of this peachy pink color. Have you ever painted kitchen cabinets (or furniture)? We painted the cabinets in our last home and it was miserably exhausting but they turned out good. I also have a few pieces of chalk painted furniture in the house. I'm leaning towards chalk paint this time around because sanding really sucks. I do however plan to poly them after because I have no interest in stains or waxing every few months.

Well that's all for today! I'd love to hear about any projects you're tackling or your experience with painting furniture/cabinets.  Also as a reminder, today is the last day to enter my contest on Instagram! Winner will be announced at 6pm MST.

  1. I love chalk paint because you can not only get that old shabby fabulous look but also a very mod look as well. I have used a high gloss finish on 2 projects and the effect is really pretty. Have you ever used a wax instead?
